Tail wagging softly,
His eyes old and dull
His young years of life
Passed joyously full

And even as he lay there
His paws meek and worn
The time with his owner
Was nothing to mourn

He looked out to the distance
Catching sight of a spot
The place where they played
And his first stick he had caught

He saw his old ball
All tuckered and blue
The one that he'd chew on
When there was nothing to do

The dog remembered lazy days
Spent in the grass
Their eyes to the sky
As each summer passed

But these times were long gone
The old hound could tell
And he sat there alone
As the Autumn leaves fell

But the dog was not sad
However odd it may be
For there was something more
He was happy to see

So he closed his gray eyes
Along the porch his tail ran
The boy that he loved
Had grown to a man
